| Over the last couple weeks, we have had some victories in providing impactful testimony for HB25-1239 Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act, and HB25-1109 Gender Identity Certificate of Death, and now both of those beneficial bills are on their way to becoming law. While we are seeing wins, though, there have also been many attempts to set us back. Several anti-trans bills have already been defeated in committee this year. So far, all the failed attacks against our community include HB25-1068 Malpractice Insurers Gender-Affirming Care Minors, HB25-1145 Trafficking Minor for Abortion or Transgender Care, HB25-1251 Parental Consent to Treatment of a Minor, HB25-1254 Limitation on Gender Transition Procedure Claims, and HB25-1255 Health-Care Provider Right to Exercise Conscience. Recent Legislation: Last week, there were two more discriminatory bills that were concerns for our community. Because of strong testimony from LGBTQIA+ activists and allies, both bills were postponed indefinitely, meaning their journey to becoming law has ended. HB25-1252: Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment Regulation of Abortion Clinics was trying to require special state abortion licensure, which would put clinics that may not comply in jeopardy of shutdown. HB25-1253: Youth Health Protection Act was attempting to block minors from and limit insurance coverage for gender-affirming care. This is especially detrimental to transgender youth who already face challenges in finding supportive care. |
